We Had the Idea: Hooded Baby Towels – What’s Next? The Steps to Selling on Amazon
After deciding that our new product would be hooded baby towels, the next question was: what’s next? Coming up with the idea is just the beginning—actually launching a product on Amazon requires planning, sourcing, and production. In this article, I’ll walk you through the key steps we took to move from an idea to being ready to sell.
Step 1: Finding a Reliable Partner for Materials
The first and most crucial step was finding a reliable partner to supply high-quality materials for our hooded baby towels. Since we wanted to focus on producing towels that parents could trust for their babies, we needed fabrics that were not only soft and durable but also safe for sensitive skin.
Luckily, being based in Europe, we had access to a variety of local suppliers who met our high standards. After researching and comparing several options, we found a partner that could offer exactly what we were looking for. Their materials were premium quality, and we felt confident that our towels would stand out in terms of comfort and durability.
Step 2: Choosing Our Initial Color Variations
With materials secured, the next step was deciding on color options. We wanted to start simple but with enough variety to appeal to a range of parents. After much thought, we chose to launch with three color variations:
Mustard
Pink
Pink with Leaf Prints
These options felt like a good starting point, offering a balance of modern and classic colors. Once we made our decision, we ordered the fabric in these colors and prepared to move forward with production.
Step 3: Creating the First Samples
Before we could move to mass production, we needed to make sure the quality was up to our standards. We sewed a few sample towels to test the fabric’s feel, absorbency, and durability. This stage was critical because it allowed us to experience firsthand how the final product would perform. The samples turned out well, and we were happy with the overall quality.
Step 4: Increasing Production
With successful samples in hand, the next step was scaling up. We ordered more fabric and started producing more units of each color. As we began to build up inventory, we also started thinking about expanding our range of colors to offer more choices to customers down the line.
At this stage, we produced around 100 units of the hooded baby towels—enough to get started on Amazon while still testing the waters.
